INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL WEEK: World Cup Warm-up Games are here

Nigeria takes the pitch against Poland away at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw,on Friday March 23 at 8:45pm. The Super Eagles are landing in pairs, trios and in quartets. And we look forward to improvements in technical and tactical responses to the gaffers instructions. Gernot Rohr impresses me on the whole I must say, and particularly in the areas of team discipline and the number of youngstars in the team, guaranteeing many years of service to the team from players like Keeper: Francis Uzoho(19),Tyron Ebuechi(22),Kelechi Iheanacho(21),Alex Iwobi(21),Ola Aina(21),Leon Balogun(29),William Troost-Ekong(24),Wilfred Ndidi(21) and Brian Idowu(25). Super Eagles also play Serbia on March 27. In Super Eagles and Coach Gernot Rohr I trust.
Brazil takes on Australia this week too and I am reminded of the first international football match I watched: Mid-West XI v Santos FC of Brazil in 1967. The Mid-West team paraded easily the most talented squad ever to come out of that State. Dr.John Okoro,Sunday Atuma, Jossy Dombraye, Alabi Aisien(later Coach of the all-conquering Bendel Insurance FC of 1978, Godwin Izilien one time Head Coach of the Super Falcons are some of the players who took to the field against Santos FC complete with Edson Arantes Do Nanscimento aka Pele, Edu, Maria and Keeper Gilmar. Here’s after game photo of some of the players on the day with Pele. Next week I shall put out here the full squad and the names.Enjoy the rest of your day.
