Gbigin Gbigin Gbigin… guns of war booming… Argentina v Nigeria
And I am reminded of the Falklands War , also known as the Falklands Conflict, Falklands Crisis, Malvinas War, South Atlantic Conflict, and the Guerra del Atlántico Sur (Spanish for “South Atlantic “), was a ten-week war between Argentina and the United Kingdom over two British dependent territories in the South Atlantic: the Falkland Islands, and its territorial dependency, the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. It began on Friday, 2 April 1982, when Argentina invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands in an attempt to establish the sovereignty it had claimed over them. April 5, the British government dispatched a naval task force to engage the Argentine Navy and Air Force and then made an amphibious assault on the islands. The conflict lasted 74 days and ended with the Argentine surrender on 14 June 1982, returning the islands to British control.
It was a major episode in the protracted confrontation over the territories’ sovereignty. Nigeria has had protracted confrontations in football with Argentina which continues tomorrow at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Super Eagles must beat Argentina tomorrow. Super Eagles must play on the front. It has to avoid the giving away free-kicks in our half and in vital areas. It must be strong and quick going forward. No goal scoring opportunity should go unutilized. Eagles must create chances and take them. All half chances must be converted. Victor Moses must be more daring, more positive and must cut into the 18 yard box as did Ahmed Musa against Iceland and to constantly put the Argentine defense under pressure. Whoever is selected for the striking role must be mobile and constantly on the move to shake off Nicolas Otamendi who can be rough if not dirty. Javier Mascherano is another very dirty player the Eagles must have less physical contact(s) with. Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain are dangerous but can be checked with very alert marking. All must play for All and victory will come. Fly Eagles Fly and good luck.
